The coolest thing about microfinancing ( which surged after Muhammad Yunus founded Grameen Bank - an innovative business model for helping the poor in developing countries ) is it can be applied everywhere. Even in the U.S., there are now sites for peer-to-peer lending, where as the investor , you can set your interest rate and provide funds(as little as $25) to help a fellow with his credit card debt, camera purchase, home purchase, or small business. Or, for those with bad credit, it’s a great new source of funding when you need money most. With interest rates set by participating members, you’ll be earning anywhere form 6%-25% APR over a 3 year period on your investment. Not bad, when current savings account yields are around 1.3%!
